     Breaking News
 Joe Gonzales Passes Away
Buena Park, CA - Nov. 14, 2008. At 5:13AM today, Fil Olegario
roused Roger Mondala from sleep to deliver a shocker: Joe
Gonzales, Class '59 standard-bearer, has died a few hours ago
from cardiac arrest. Allegedly, Joe was directing the bulldozer
leveling of a hilly seaside property he has newly acquired in
Sual, Pangasinan when the attack came. Visitors to this website
are requested to pray for the eternal repose of his soul.

Purpose of this site
This site was put up and is being maintained to promote cohesiveness
and camaraderie among, and to contribute something that is geared
towards the greater glory of, "The 59ers of MNHS".
+++++
Who we are
We are the 13th batch of graduates from the Mangatarem High School
(MHS) [now Mangatarem National High School (MNHS)] in Pangasinan,
a province of the Philippines north of Manila. Having graduated in 1959,
we chose to be called "The 59ers of MNHS."
+++++
Where we wish to go
As one group, we commit ourselves to be true to the aims of secondary
education instilled in our minds by our MNHS teachers, namely: 1)
moral character - 1st year, 2) personal discipline - 2nd year, 3) civic
conscience - 3rd year, and 4) vocational efficiency - 4th year . Moreover,
we believe that life is a journey and that where it is heading to, how one
acted during the journey matters.
+++++
What we wish to do
As one group, we undertake to:
1) keep the font of nostalgia constantly flowing,
2) meet as often as possible to drink from that font, and
3) do Annual Eye Medical Mission (AEMM) for the "needy in our town" of
Mangatarem as our means
of giving back what we took during our youth.
+++++
Where are we now
1986 Reunion
The idea of having a class reunion was first suggested by Fil Olegario to
Roger Mondala in July, 1975. Eleven long years of  hard work resulted in
the holding of the first of such event at the MNHS Auditorium on Dec. 28,
1986. The affair, which has for its theme "Sharing of Human Warmth",
was a moderate success and Class leaders saw it fit to have more of the
same in the future.

The Coming of RINAs
In late 2001, 59er Felix Vince Cruz took the initiative of tracking down the
addresses of class members who are residing in mainland USA and
Canada and rallied them to hold a reunion which he billed as "Reunion
In North America" or RINA.
(Please see Reunion page)
+++++
"Mother of all Reunions"
Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the 59ers' graduation from the
Mangatarem National High School. Published elsewhere on this page
are documents relating to the preparations being made to hold a fitting
ceremony that will mark the event.

                  Quote to live by
"Youth is not a time of life. It is a state of
mind. Nobody grows old by merely living a
number of years. People grow old only by
deserting their ideals. Years wrinkle the
skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the
soul" . . .Unknown
